This review is a little late, but I figured it would be a fun respite from the more serious NYFW posts.
Oh boy…how do I even describe the fashion seen at MTV’s Video Music Awards 2015?
After being pleasantly surprised at the looks worn to last year’s event, I’ll admit that I was kind of let down by this year’s attendees. Let me be honest and say I let out a quiet groan when I heard that Miley Cyrus would be hosting the event. As fabulous as she is, Miley isn’t exactly a pinnacle of fashionable style and I anticipated that she would see the event as an opportunity to shock her audience with increasing degrees of nudity than as a chance to wow us all with a fierce fashion statement.
Oh Miley! Miley Cyrus stars in a still from one of MTV’s 2015 Video Music Award promos. Image MTV
Turns out I predicted correctly, since Miley’s VMA wardrobe consisted mainly of rainbow- hued costume getups and lots and lots of skin. Still, she worked it all fearlessly and hosted the show with her signature hyper style. It was a lot of fun.
Unfortunately the costume vibe trickled down to the other attendees, who for the most part arrived in ensembles that shouldn’t have even seen the light of day. There were some good looks, but on the whole the 2015 VMA red carpet provided slim pickings for us devoted style watchers.
Here are the best of the best.
Cara DeLevinge’s star- spangled Yves Saint Laurent fringed minidress was the perfect choice for this event and looked fabulous paired with strappy Stuart Weitzman heels and effortless hair and makeup. 10 out of 10 for this stylish supermodel. Image GETTY IMAGES
As a red- carpet look, Greer Grammer’s Micheal Costelloe number was pretty basic- but compared to everything else going on on the VMA carpet, this was one of the best outfits of the night. Accessories by Atelier Swarvoski and Giuseppi Zanotti and jewels by Cristina Ramella and Mattia Cielo rounded out her ensemble. Image IMAGETREE
Stella Maxwell’s graphic Moschino gown was a playful shot of fabulously tacky fun! I really liked this ensemble. Image GETTY IMAGES
This look certainly isn’t one for the shy! FKA Twigs went full-on vamp for the VMAs in Atelier Versace and Eva Fehren jewels. Image GETTY IMAGES
I love this! Halsey was straight-up fierce in this colour-blocked Galvan jumpsuit, Sara Weinstock jewels and accessories by Stuart Weitzman and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Image AP
Kylie Jenner looked fabulous in head- to- toe Balmain and a Ralwulf clutch. Image GETTY IMAGES
Another great look- Kylie’s after-party get up was also by Balmain. It’s fabulous, but I wish that she’s changed her shoes as well. Image GETTY IMAGES
Martha Hunt’s sparkly Georges Chakra dress paired perfectly with her Stuart Weitzman sandals. Image IMAGETREE
Nicki Minaj was every inch the golden goddess in this sheer La Bourgeoisie gown and Zoë Chicco. Gone are the days of bad wigs and crazy dresses and may they never return! Image GETTY IMAGES
This was by far Miley’s best look of the night! This bright, sequinned and floral-embellished ensemble was by The Blonds. Image MTV.COM
Keltie Knight’s sheer embellished gown was by Gabriel Acadena. Image GETTY IMAGES
Lily Aldridge flaunted her fabulous bod in this sexy Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture gown and Jennifer Meyer jewels. Image IMAGETREE
Let me know what you thought!
