The 2016 Awards season is heating up! With the Golden Globe Awards over and the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, the BAFTAs and the Academy Awards all following in swift succession, the stars are kicking their fashion games into high gear.
The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards took place on January 10th at the the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California and there was some seriously fab fashion on show during the event! Most of the starlets turned out looking their best, and here are my favourite looks of the night!
Hands down, my favuorite look of the night! The Outlander star dazzled in a black lace Alexander McQueen gown and Neil Lane jewels. Image GETTY IMAGES
Everything about this look is perfect! I adore the gown (it’s Dolce & Gabbana), the jewels (Norman Lane), and the hair and makeup. She looks fantastic- and most importantly, she looks like a star! Image GETTY IMAGES
I don’t know why so many people hated this look. (Wifey looks amazing – Estevan) Yes a sparkling Elie Saab gown is Eva Green’s red carpet uniform, but she looks fantastic every time she steps out. She finished her look with Repossi jewels and I love it! Image REX
The future Mrs. Statham sparkled in this hand beaded Atelier Versace gown, Jimmy Choo sandals and Niel Lane jewels. I wish she’d adjusted her bodice to smooth out the wrinkles though. Image GETTY IMAGES
Kirsten Dunst’s fabulous Valentino Haute Couture gown was a one of the highlights of the night. It’s velvet, which often doesn’t photograph well, but the gown was stunning from every angle, especially when accessorized with Salvatore Ferragamo heels and glittering old-cut Niel Lane diamond earrings. I noticed her jewelry first, specifically that cabochon ruby ring. Sophia Bush exuded pure glamour in this Narciso Rodriguez gown, Sophia Webster accessories and Matin Katz jewelry. Image GETTY IMAGES
Julianne Moore’s sequinned Tom Ford gown and Chopard jewels were gorgeous, but her hair ruined the look for me. She still looks great, but an updo or a ponytail would have elevated this look immensely. Image REX
This colour looks great on her! Zendaya Coleman stunned in this tiered lace Marchesa gown and jewelry by Yoko London and Lydia Courtielle. I would have had my hair in a modern updo or high ponytail though. Image GETTY IMAGES
I originally didn’t like this padded Atelier Versace number but it grew on me, especially since it reminds me so much of the one worn by Madame X in her famous painting in the Met. Lady Gaga played into this perfectly, by posing dramatically all along the red carpet. She looks phenomenal and accessorized well with Brian Atwood heels and Neil Lane diamonds. Image AP
I knew this was Gucci from the second I saw this gown! Amber Heard hasn’t looked this good in a long time. Image GETTY IMAGES
Not everyone will like Jane Fonda’s ruffled Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture gown, but I adore it! It’s eye catching, unique, and utterly regal. It’s also a testament to her presence that she could pull such a busy look off without looking overwhelmed, but she wore it like a queen. The styling was flawless as well, with Jimmy Choo heels and Chopard jewelry rounding off the look perfectly. Image GETTY IMAGES
Zoe Kazan may have looked a little washed out in this pale Miu Miu gown, but it’s so pretty that I can look past that point. She looks good! Image GETTY IMAGES
Bryce Dallad Howard looked lovely in this embellished midnight blue Jenny Packham gown and Irene Neuwirth earrings. Image GETTY IMAGES
She looks like a disco ball and I love it. Portia Doubleday literally sparkled in this sequinned gown by Naeem Khan. Image GETTY IMAGES
While I do think that Calista Flockhart’s look would have been greatly improved with a more elaborate hairstyle (a bun perhaps, or a sideswept twist), there’s no denying that her embellished Andrew Gn gown was beautiful. What a gorgeous colour! Image GETTY IMAGES
I adored this glittering Zuhair Murad Haute Couture gown on the runway, and seeing it here only intensified my feelings for it. The neckline is a little off for her but Jenna Dewan-Tatum looks really good. She accessorized well with Stuart Weitzman shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Image AP
I liked this Elizabeth Kennedy gown from the moment I saw it on the red carpet, but when I saw that back I loved it. Laverne accessorized well with Brian Atwood shoes, a metallic Nathalie Trad bag and Lorriane Schwartz jewels. Image GETTY IMAGES/WWD
The gown is very princess-y (it’s Marchesa), but I can look past that since Cinderalla obviously showed up to serve FACE! Her jewelry is by Harry Winston, but I’m only noticing the fire she’s giving the camera. WERQ! Image REX
I loved Viola Davis in this bejewelled Marchesa gown- those cascading sleeves are everything! She accessorized well with Stuart Weitzman heels, a bejewelled Judith Leiber clutch and Jacob & Co. jewelry. Image GETTY IMAGES
I’ve seen this look likened to a bedsheet, but I’m defending it because I’ve just ordered a skirt with the same print. Melissa Benoist was a floral beauty in this printed Monique Lhullier tulip dress, accessories by Stuart Weitzman and Judith Leiber and Irene Neuwirth jewelry. Image WWD
Someone had to bring crazy couture to the red carpet and I’m happy that that someone was Cate Blanchett. She and Tilda Swinton are the only ones who have the presence to pull something as wild as this fringed Givenchy Haute Couture gown off without looking like a complete mess. Her styling did much in the way of preventing that, with perfectly done hair and makeup and pretty but understated jewelry by Tiffany & Co. The colour was the only thing that I had against this gown, since that pale pink washes the beautiful Miss Blanchett out. Naomi Campbell has worn this gown in white, and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it in black at a party somewhere, and I think that if this gown had been done in one of these plainer colours, the look would have been much more successful (especially in black, or even deep blue). I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d seen Gina Rodriguez’s blue Zac Posen gown before and that whoever wore it first wore it much, much better. She looks really good though, especially since she accessorized with Jimmy Choo shoes and Neil Lane jewelry. Her skirt was a little crushed, but that can’t be helped. Image GETTY IMAGES
Then I remembered who wore a gown like this first:
Rihanna at the 2014 Diamond Ball, looking like a queen in a similar Zac Posen gown. Image GETTY IMAGES
Gina, sorry girl, you didn’t stand a chance.
Overall, pretty fab!
