Cannes 2016: amfAR Gala

The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) Logo

amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment, education and the advocacy of AIDS-related policies. For the past 23 years, amFAR has held an annual fundraising event in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival and it has grown into one of the most anticipated and glamorous events on the Festival’s roster, attracting the crème de la crème of international film, fashion, art and society to support and raise awareness for AIDS research.

This year’s event may have featured performances by Katy Perry, The Village People, Sister Sledge, and The Bluebell Girls, but it’s undisputed highlight was a live auction of the exclusive “Disco Collection”, fashion which raised over $25 million for amfAR’s cause. How great!

Along with the gorgeous auctioned fashion, attendees show up and show out in some of the most fabulous formal wear that’s the de rigueur dress code for one of the year’s most glamorous events. amfAR always serves up some great red carpet fare (or should I say ‘white carpet’) and this year’s affair was no exception!

Here are some of the best looks of the night.

Isabeli Fontana

My favourite look of the night! Isabeli Fontana shone in a sexy Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture gown, Guiseppi Zanotti heels and gorgeous Harry Winston jewels.

Kasia Struss

Kasia Stuss stunned in this sheer Zuhair Murad number.

Daria Strokous

Daria Strokus’ Maison IRFĒ gown was a welcome pop of colour to a very monochrome carpet, she looked great!

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren has really been stepping up her already good fashion game, and this custom Temperly London gown was a great choice. Jimmy Choo pumps and bold Harry Winston jewels finished her look perfectly.

Jacqueline Jablonski

I love the simplicity of Jacqueline Jablonski’s look, her plain white Jason Wu gown paired with sleek hair and makeup were striking.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio, goegeous in a glimmering Redemption gown, Jimmy Choo heels and Boucheron jewels.

For the event she wore part of Boucheron’s gorgeous Pampille de diamants parure, a necklace and ring in white gold, diamonds and rock cristal set with 18,58 and 11,07 carats sapphires, and the Rivage cuff, a swirling confection of white gold, diamonds and sapphires.

Toni Garrn

Toni Garrn was perfectly party- ready in a metallic Elie Saab minidress, strappy Guiseppi Zanotti heels and Piaget jewels.

Sasha Luss

Sasha Luss stunned in an embellished gown by Balmain.

Katy Perry

I actually appreciated the drama of Katy Perry at this event, with her Marchesa gown looking as if it were made of rose petals and her styling on point. Sleek hair and makeup paired with gorgeous Harry Winston jewels were a perfect combo.

Milla Jovovich

I loved Milla Jovovich’s sparkly Elie Saab gown. How eye- catching!

Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss stunned in a floral- embellished Marchesa gown, sparkly Guiseppi Zanotti heels, a crystallized Juidith Lieber clutch and Chopard jewels.

Jourdan Dunn

Jourdan Dunn kept things simple and stylish in this ruffled Dsquared2 gown.

Barbara Palvin

Barbara Palvin stunned in this ruffled Armani Privé gown.

Soo Joo Park

Soo Joo Park stunned in a Chenel Haute Coutre gown with glimmeing diamonds by Chanel Haute Joaillerie.

Hanne Gaby Odile

I loved Hanne Gaby Odiele’s crystal- embellished Miu Miu gown with it’s a beautiful colour and perfect fall of the skirt.

Bella Heathcote

Bella Heathcote’s graphic Armani Privé gown was gorgeous, and perfectly accessorized with Guiseppi Zanotti shoes, a simple Jimmy Choo clutch and Bulgari jewels.

Isabel Goulart

Izabel Goulart’s embellished Zuhair Murad gown was perfectly paired with statement Di Grisogono earrings.
